Welcome to the new Paper & Board Association Website

The PBA celebrates 100 Years!

It seems only fitting as we celebrate 100 years of the Paper & Board Association that we launch our new website. You will be able to find out details on all of our members, ways to contact us as well as the latest industry news and useful links.

On the 24th September 1924, at the offices of the London Chamber of Commerce, a new organisation was born. They named it The British Association of Colonial and Foreign Paper Mills.

After 2 years the name was changed to The Paper Agents Association which was much more concise.

Over the next 50 years is gained a worldwide reputation of respect for services to the paper industry, at its peak the PAA had 67 members.

The list included members such as Billerud, Fiskeby, Iggesund and Korsnas and they are still members today.

Even during the war years the association continued to function, giving advice on war risk insurance, payment of shipped goods held in foreign ports and the custodian of enemy property.

During these trouble times, imports of paper and board to the UK virtually stopped except for small quantities of newsprint and some board from Canada and the USA.

Since 1924 the association has had 60 Presidents and as of 2018 Neil Skelton of Chapelton Board has been its President.

In 2013 the association changed its name to The Paper & Board Association to accommodate the changing markets and members.

As of 2024 the PBA members include agents, merchants, mill groups, converters, hauliers and statistics providers.

The PBA will continue to expand its membership and add to the diversity it enjoys today.
